Lilian Carp, who leads Moldova’s parliamentary commission on national security, defense and public order, urged the country’s prosecutor general to submit a formal report on the shooting at Chisinau airport so that the level of accountability for the individual involved can be clearly assessed. The Border Police chief, Rosian Vasiligo, was singled out in the discussions. According to Carp, Vasiligo could face resignation if wrongdoing is confirmed. He emphasized that the prosecutor’s office must provide a definitive finding, after which a decision about the Border Police chief would follow.

Carp warned that delaying the investigation could fuel public suspicion. He argued that any premature speculation about the incident could distort the truth and undermine public confidence in law enforcement and oversight. The discussion underscores Moldova’s insistence on transparency and accountability when critical security events occur that affect national safety and order.

Earlier in Moldova, several senior ministers resigned in connection with the airport shooting. These included the Head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Anna Revenco, along with the Ministers of Infrastructure, Lilia Dabizhi, and Education and Research, Anadolu Topala. The reshuffle reflected the gravity of the incident and the expectation that top officials should bear responsibility for lapses that may have contributed to security vulnerabilities.

On June 30, the shooting at Chisinau airport drew a rapid response from the Moldovan authorities. The Ministry of Internal Affairs identified the hitman as Rustam Ashurov, a Tajik national with ties to a criminal organization in his home country. Investigators indicated that he had been involved in the kidnapping of a senior bank manager and had been attempting to depart Moldova through channels that included European Union routes via Türkiye. Ultimately, entry attempts at Chisinau airport were thwarted, preventing the suspect from entering the country’s air hub.

In subsequent statements, officials clarified that information about the attacker had been incomplete at the time, which contributed to early gaps in public understanding. As Moldova continues to review the incident, officials stressed the importance of sharing accurate, timely information to prevent rumor-driven distortions and to reinforce trust in security institutions. The unfolding narrative demonstrates the country’s ongoing commitment to rigorous oversight, coordinated law enforcement action, and accountability at the highest levels of government.
