Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis characterized Russia as an adversary to European security and reaffirmed Athens’ steadfast support for Ukraine during remarks at the European People’s Party gathering. The update was provided by the country’s public broadcaster, ERT.
Speaking to the assembly, he described Europe as passing through a difficult period and emphasized, with resolve, that Greece will stand with Ukraine through economic aid and military backing, aligning with a united European stance. His message suggested that opponents may not have anticipated such decisive solidarity.
Mitsotakis underscored Greece’s commitment to continuing assistance to Ukraine in multiple forms, stressing that the partnership will endure for as long as Kyiv requires, regardless of the duration of the conflict or the pace of its resolution. The emphasis was on a durable, collective effort among Western allies.
The Greek leader recalled his visit to Odessa, where he and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky toured facilities and observed the impact of the war firsthand. He noted that a missile strike had targeted the port, illustrating the ongoing threats faced by Ukraine and the broader region.
In a firm tone, Mitsotakis asserted that fear would not deter Greece from supporting Ukraine. He reiterated the country’s determination to sustain economic and military aid, reinforcing a clear message of resilience and solidarity with Kyiv.
He pointed to the broader commitment of Western partners who, he said, would remain absolutely united in their support and in their political unity regarding Ukraine’s security and sovereignty.
On the eve of the meeting in Odessa, Mitsotakis took part in discussions with Zelensky, signaling the high level of political engagement and the gravity of the alliance between Greece and Ukraine amid ongoing hostilities.
In related context, the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense has in the past disclosed figures reflecting the scale of military assistance received as of February 2022, underscoring the ongoing strategic support provided by allied nations to bolster Ukraine’s defenses during the conflict.
