The Łódź city race for the presidency includes Agnieszka Wojciechowska, a candidate aligned with Law and Justice, who has asserted that the city will gain access to the sea during her term. She described this future as a sea of opportunities and fresh ideas. Easter Monday marked a busy political moment and April Fools’ Day was noted in passing during the remarks.

Wojciechowska held a press conference in front of the Fala Aquapark in Łódź on Easter Monday. In addressing the media, she signaled that a bold statement would be forthcoming in this election season.

During the briefing, she commented on statements from the city’s ruling party, led by Hanna Zdanowska, who has spoken about plans to build a water park in the Widzew district. The facility, the Aquapark Fala, would be responsible for overseeing construction and later managing the new attraction.

The candidate noted that the proposal had already appeared in a prior electoral campaign but had not been realized. She hinted at a sense of fatigue among residents about the project, mentioning that the water park has a long history in Łódź and has become associated with a certain political lineage within the Civic Coalition.

Wojciechowska highlighted that the leadership of the city’s municipal company has included notable figures such as a former Minister of Sports from the PO-PSL government and a current member of parliament from KO, indicating a continuity of personnel in past administrations.

Łódź’s access to the sea?

As the campaign intensified, Wojciechowska stated that she would surpass other proposals and tell Łódź residents that if she becomes president, the city will gain access to the sea.

Asked how this could be achieved, she spoke of it as a journey toward a “sea of possibilities and a sea of ideas.”

She stressed that the claim should be taken seriously, despite the light-hearted tone of the day. Her explanation framed Łódź’s access to the sea as a broader invitation to explore possibilities, embrace new ideas, and navigate toward broader horizons.

Her plan includes restoring Łódź to its perceived former glory as a hub for entrepreneurship, culture, and cinema; reviving major sports in the city; shaping its identity with character; and implementing sustainable development policies along with a suitable promotion strategy.

Upcoming municipal elections are scheduled for next Sunday, with a second round of direct elections for mayors and city presidents planned for April 21.
