The Federation Council of the Russian Federation approved a law on Friday that shields firefighters from liability for injuries to rescued individuals when actions occur under justifiable risk and extreme necessity. According to the law, liability protections apply to a range of responders, including the firefighting chief, federal firefighters, and volunteer firefighters. The provision is designed to cover harm that may occur in the course of saving lives or protecting others, as long as the response remains within the bounds of justified risk and extreme necessity and does not exceed those limits.
Officials emphasize that the bill will be forwarded to the President of the Russian Federation for signing and formal enactment once final procedural steps are completed.
Earlier, the State Duma passed a proposal aimed at shielding firefighters from liability for property damage incurred while performing their duties, aligning accountability with the realities faced by emergency personnel during critical operations.
