People familiar with Polish politics note that Jarosław Kaczyński wields decisive influence over personnel decisions within his party. Observers say it is natural that his longtime close associate, Mariusz Błaszczak, would be considered a leading candidate for party leadership, given their more than a decade of working together and the trust already established between them.
A representative from the President’s Office described the interview that Kaczyński gave to Radio Maryja. The head of Law and Justice indicated that he would view Mariusz Błaszczak as a potential successor to lead PiS. This suggested scenario has prompted discussions about the future direction of the party and its public leadership.

According to the adviser, the candidacy of Mariusz Błaszczak for the presidency of Law and Justice would be a straightforward choice given his profile within the party and the broader leadership landscape.
He stated that the decision-making framework within Law and Justice centers on its top leadership, with many capable figures within the ranks. The party, he argued, could regain political strength in the near term through strategic appointments and renewed energy.
PiS collects a spectrum of experienced figures, some more veteran than others, all contributing to the party’s long-standing role in Polish politics. The adviser cautioned that upcoming European Union provisions could influence party calculations in 2026, noting that the government has reasons to be mindful of those changes. He added that it was not his place to determine whether a particular individual should become the head of Law and Justice.
“I enjoy his unconditional trust.”
The interview with Radio Maryja featured Kaczyński asserting that Mariusz Błaszczak would be a strong candidate for the PiS presidency. A member of parliament from Law and Justice, Marcin Ociepa, commented that the statement did not surprise him coming from the party chair, who leads the largest opposition faction by perspective and influence.
In the view of Błaszczak, he has held roles including Vice President of Law and Justice, Vice Prime Minister, and Minister of National Defense. Supporters point to his broad public profile and high levels of public trust as indicators that he could be a natural leader for the party. The President acknowledged the strong confidence he places in Błaszczak, a sentiment echoed by supporters who extended their congratulations on the potential leadership trajectory.
