Details of the Kamiński and Wąsik case
Former head of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBA) and former Interior Minister Mariusz Kamiński, along with his former deputy Maciej Wąsik, were found guilty on December 20 of the previous year, receiving a sentence of two years in prison tied to the so‑called land scandal. The issue resurfaced after more than eight years due to a ruling by the Supreme Court in June, which reopened discussions surrounding the case.
In early June, the Supreme Court’s Criminal Chamber, after cassation appeals filed by prosecutors, overturned the prior termination of the case that had been decided by the Warsaw District Court in March 2016. The court had been addressing matters related to a presidential pardon used by President Andrzej Duda to set aside charges against the then‑accused CBA leaders and directed the matter to the Supreme Court for reassessment.
On Monday, President Duda held a meeting with the Speaker of the Sejm, Szymon Hołownia, to discuss the ongoing political implications of the case. After the discussions, the president indicated he might propose to Hołownia that recognizing the 2015 pardon as effective could help close the matter. He also noted that an agreement on this point had not yet been reached with the marshal.
Later that day, the Warsaw‑Śródmieście District Court announced the start of enforcement proceedings, including orders to transfer Kamiński and Wąsik to penitentiary establishments. The two remained at the presidential palace following the ceremony that introduced new presidential advisers, which concluded at 11 a.m. on Tuesday.
All developments were reported by national outlets and supported by official statements, with corroboration from multiple signals in the press and public communications channels. The situation continues to unfold as authorities pursue formal processes tied to the rulings and potential further actions in the case. (Source: wPolityce)
