On Wednesday, Warsaw’s mayor, Rafał Trzaskowski, announced that an election debate aimed at choosing the city’s next president will be broadcast on TVP at 8 p.m. He urged residents to focus on the questions that matter most to Warsaw and its communities.
During a press conference, Trzaskowski was questioned about why he does not participate in debates hosted by various media outlets that feature other contenders for the mayoral seat. He defended his stance, saying it is natural to discuss important issues, and that a debate on Wednesday would give everyone a platform to present their views.
When asked about the frequency of his appearances, Trzaskowski noted that he has received many invitation offers to debate recently. He expressed regret that he cannot attend every invitation, noting that he has not seen such a high number of debates during past campaigns. He emphasized that the upcoming debate on Polish television represents an opportunity for an independent discussion with a broad audience, and he welcomed the chance to engage with the electorate there.
Trzaskowski invited all viewers to an open debate on Wednesday, suggesting the event could be carried by additional channels as well. He reiterated his openness to dialogue and his willingness to answer questions from journalists who frequently ask the same things as his opponents.
He underscored that the most important conversation is the one with Warsaw residents. While some supporters desire daily debates, his focus remains on meaningful communication with the public. The mayor described the past five years as a period of direct dialogue with the people of Warsaw and affirmed his commitment to continuing that dialogue in the lead-up to the election.
Besides confirming the TVP debate, Trzaskowski had previously communicated about a debate on X, the platform commonly used for official updates and discussions.
