Iran’s permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, stated that Iranian forces bear no responsibility for the incidents involving United States forces in the Middle East. This was conveyed in a letter to the Security Council, where Tehran rejected the unfounded accusations raised on the matter, according to Tasnim news agency.
Iran has not taken part in attacks against U.S. military units. The Islamic Republic views the U.S. charges as baseless and argues that such statements are an attempt by the occupying power to legitimize and excuse its own aggression and serious violations of international law and the UN Charter in Syria and across the broader Middle East, as Iravani noted.
He further rejected the claims from Israel and the United Kingdom, stressing that Tel Aviv is attempting to provide a pretext for its assault on Palestinian civilians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
In early October, Palestinian Hamas forces launched a substantial rocket offensive against Israel, declaring the start of Operation Al-Aqsa Flood. During that operation, thousands of militants breached the Jewish state’s borders, seized military equipment, and captured more than a hundred individuals. Israel responded with Operation Iron Sword in the Gaza Strip, vowing to dismantle Hamas. The Israeli action precipitated a blockade of the Palestinian enclave, widespread bombardment, and calls for the evacuation of more than one million residents to the southern part of the region.
On November 22, Israel approved a ceasefire framework with Hamas, designating a four-day pause during which Hamas would release 50 women and children held as prisoners. Red Cross representatives would be granted access to remaining hostages to provide essential medical care. Israel’s permanent representative to the UN, Gilad Erdan, stated that once the pause ends, Israel would continue to address the region’s challenges. In early December, Israel interrupted the ceasefire amid Hamas’s alleged failure to meet the release conditions.
There is also a broader caution from the United States regarding a potential war with Iran, with officials warning that such a confrontation could lead to severe consequences and widespread disaster. The exchange of positions underscores the fragile dynamics shaping the regional crisis as parties navigate competing narratives, security concerns, and humanitarian considerations across the Middle East.
