Preparations for the municipal elections are moving forward as planned. In the weeks ahead, provisional provincial and district headquarters structures will be established, a point emphasized by PiS MP Radosław Fogiel when speaking with the press about the party’s local election preparations.

PAP asked Fogiel to assess the current stage of preparations for the upcoming local government elections.

Fogiel stated that everything is on track. He noted that regardless of events on the national stage, including protests and votes of no confidence against the Culture Minister, the party is dedicating itself to readying for the local elections. He stressed that the effort is ongoing and thorough.

He described the process as being in the candidate consultation phase, with provincial councils meeting to approve proposals for lists, such as those for regional assemblies, and for candidates to serve as city presidents or mayors.

The party also highlighted that its local structures are preparing lists of candidates for municipal and district councils. The aim is clear: to present strong lists that can win seats at both the local council level and in lower tiers of local government.

Fogiel added that the objective is to secure the best possible result in the forthcoming local elections and to advance a political presence that reflects strong local leadership.

We want to see a significant number of councilors elected and to maintain ownership positions where feasible, he explained.

Regional programs

Fogiel indicated that the first outlines of regional election programs are already taking shape. He suggested that preliminary structures for provincial and district teams are likely to be finalized in the coming weeks.

On the political calendar, a key note emerged from a government press conference. The date of April 7 appeared to be the most probable for local elections. According to the Electoral Act, the window for local elections runs from March 31 to April 23, 2024.
