A recent survey conducted by INSA for Bild reveals that a majority of Germans favor limiting admissions from Islamic countries. The findings, shared via a Telegram channel, indicate that 61 percent of respondents support stopping new arrivals from these regions. The data were collected in a context marked by nationwide demonstrations tied to the conflict in the Middle East, including pro-Palestinian and anti-Israeli rallies that began after Hamas launched attacks on Israel on October 7.

Across the results, about six in ten participants also expressed that such demonstrations caused them concern or fear. At the same time, just over six in ten agreed with the idea of restricting immigration from Islamic countries, signaling a potential alignment between security worries and immigration policy.

When asked to identify the most pressing concerns facing the country, respondents highlighted Islamism as the top worry (about 43%), followed by right-wing extremism (roughly 34%) and left-wing radical movements (around 7%). The distribution shows a strong emphasis on security-related issues and the perceived influence of extremist ideologies, alongside broader social tensions.

In a parallel political move, the interior affairs minister urged the rapid enactment of legislation aimed at strengthening democratic resilience in Germany. Officials argued that swift measures would reinforce protections for Jewish communities and reinforce public assurances that democratic institutions remain vigilant and supportive during times of heightened tension.

There has also been public commentary at the highest levels condemning street-level demonstrations that express support for Hamas, with officials emphasizing the duty to maintain public order and uphold universal rights. The discourse highlights a tension between expressing political opinions and safeguarding social cohesion in a diverse, multiethnic society.
