Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, who also serves as Secretary General of the Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia ruling party, reaffirmed that Georgian authorities will stand firm in defending the nation’s interests and the well-being of its people. His remarks came in response to information from the State Security Service about planned anti-government protests, which echoed fears of destabilization seen in Ukraine during the Euromaidan events.
Kaladze stated that there are always efforts to pull the country into turmoil and discord. He stressed that the government in power is not universally accepted, yet he believes no leadership exists that would sacrifice the country’s interests or the welfare of Georgian citizens to serve outsiders. He asserted clearly that the state will protect its people and avoid allowing any group to weaponize public sentiment for foreign agendas, insisting, in his words, that Georgia will not be treated as a battleground for external interests.
In his view, the country must remain vigilant and united against attempts to manipulate national loyalties for destabilization. He underscored that the government’s responsibility is to maintain order, safeguard constitutional processes, and ensure that political actions do not jeopardize the safety and livelihoods of ordinary Georgians. The message was that any disruption or calls for drastic change would be met with a decisive response from state institutions, aimed at preserving civic stability and upholding Georgia’s sovereignty.
Kaladze also reminded audiences that Georgia is not for sale and urged everyone, inside and outside the country, to remember this principle. The emphasis was on protecting national dignity and preventing any enterprise that would compromise Georgia’s independence. He reiterated that the state reserves the right to act to secure peace and to deter movements that threaten public security or provoke unwarranted upheavals. The broader takeaway was a warning against external interference while affirming a commitment to democratic processes and the constitutional rights of citizens.
Earlier, officials in Georgia had described the situation as reminiscent of Euromaidan, highlighting concerns about the potential influence of European Union actions or policy shifts on Georgian internal affairs. The dialogue pointed to the delicate balance Georgia seeks between aligning with Western partners and safeguarding its own political autonomy. In this context, leaders stressed the importance of lawful avenues for dissent and the protection of public safety during periods of political tension, urging all factions to pursue dialogue and constitutional methods rather than street protests that could escalate into disorder.
