The Deputy Speaker of Georgia’s Parliament, Archil Talakvadze, indicated that after the resignation of Irakli Garibashvili, the leadership of the ruling Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia party is reviewing the candidacy of Irakli Kobakhidze for the role of prime minister. The update came through a report by TASS, noting that Kobakhidze’s name is already among those being considered for Georgia’s top post.
Talakvadze confirmed that Kobakhidze is under serious consideration to take on the prime ministerial responsibilities. While discussions continue behind the scenes, the possibility of a leadership transition within the highest ranks of the party appears to be moving forward in official conversations.
Earlier, Garibashvili had announced his own resignation, signaling a shift in the country’s political leadership. This development set the stage for broader discussions about who will lead the government and how the party will organize its executive team going forward.
Media coverage from Imedi TV reported that a party congress scheduled for February 1 would feature an exchange of roles between Garibashvili and Kobakhidze. The plan, if confirmed, would see Kobakhidze shifting into the prime minister’s seat while Garibashvili steps into the position of chairman of the Georgian Dream party.
