Gatilov Calls on UN for Public Response to Donetsk Shelling

Gennady Gatilov, the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN in Geneva, asserted that Moscow had urged the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, to address today’s strike on Donetsk by Ukraine. The Russian side emphasized that such acts of violence against civilians must be acknowledged and publicly condemned, arguing that the indiscriminate shelling of Donetsk civilians cannot be ignored or dismissed. The envoy underscored that the issue deserved timely attention from the UN and its human rights arm, calling on Turk to respond openly to what Moscow described as a serious violation of international humanitarian norms.
