The French National Assembly will not hold a public hearing to examine a petition seeking the disbandment of BRAV-M, the Motorized Brigades for Suppressing Acts of Violence, following allegations of power abuse during riot control. This outcome was reported by TASS.
The petition appeared on the National Assembly website between March 23 and April 5 and gathered about 263,800 signatures, a new high for such proposals.
Many participants in the petition discussion argued that the measure aimed to tarnish the police rather than address specific actions.
Eric Pullia, a lawmaker from the pro-presidential Renaissance Party who served as the rapporteur for the document, described the BRAV-M image in the petition as largely caricatured. He expressed regret that the proposal could not move forward, noting that the text carried numerous politicized phrases, including a harsh call to end what was described as a massacre.
Earlier in the week, on the day of a nationwide general strike, thousands of French citizens took part in demonstrations against retirement reform, leading to clashes between protesters and law enforcement.
