A festival of hypocrisy is being called out by Prime Minister Morawiecki as he commented tonight on statements from political opponents. He referenced Roman Giertych’s plan to vote on abortion in line with party positions.

Giertych, Tusk and abortion. Festival of Hypocrisy

During a live Facebook broadcast on Thursday evening, the Prime Minister addressed the presentation of candidates on the PiS electoral lists for the parliamentary elections. He noted that each party leader is tasked with helping those on the list and easing tensions where possible.

There is a shared objective, he stated: to build a stronger Poland, to continue closing the gap with Western nations that has occurred recently, and to establish a social safety net that protects the weakest and rejects social Darwinism.

Such sentiments were voiced by the Prime Minister.

Meanwhile, Morawiecki criticized the opponents, describing a “festival of hypocrisy” on their side as well.

Roman Giertych appears to oppose abortion in principle, yet indicated he would vote with party discipline, while Donald Tusk has been associated with calls for permission for abortion up to 12 weeks of gestation. This alignment is used to argue that the backbone of some opponents can be flexible under political pressure.

– he added.

“A real solidarity policy”

In the same Facebook broadcast, Morawiecki recalled the Day of Solidarity and Freedom observed on August 31, marking the anniversary of the August agreements. The discussion highlighted the social policies pursued by the current government coalition, labeled United Right.

Real solidarity policies, according to the Prime Minister, mean sharing the fruits of growth in a way that allows those who are weaker in society to reach a decent standard of living. This includes ensuring an equal start for people living far from major urban centers and transportation routes.

He criticized the opposition and asked whether every authority has upheld Solidarity’s legacy through its actions.

“I have serious doubts about that,” he assessed.

He invited listeners to compare liberal approaches to social policy, the minimum wage, and care for seniors.

In the same breath, Morawiecki referenced former figures from Poland’s communist era, noting their roles in history. He mentioned Leszek Miller, a long-time member associated with the era, and Włodzimierz Cimoszewicz, a former prime minister with ties to communist activities. He also named Bogusław Wołoszański, who, according to the head of the Institute of National Remembrance, was linked to communist intelligence services.

Morawiecki provided his calculations on savings and social gains.

Real savings that remain in the pockets of millions of Poles

During the televised discussion, the head of the government highlighted changes to the tax on civil transactions related to purchasing a first home. A new exemption was introduced, removing the PCC tax on the purchase of a primary residence on the secondary market, translating into real savings for many Poles. This is described as another tax relief achieved under the current administration.

It was noted that overall tax changes have favored taxpayers in recent years. The PIT, CIT, and VAT rates have seen reductions under the current governance, delivering visible savings to citizens.

Starting August 31, 2023, the exemption from the PCC on purchasing a first apartment or house will apply to secondary-market transactions. The Ministry of Finance explained that the exemption applies to purchases of dwellings that are sole residences, whether single-family homes or cooperative titles. The exemption is available to natural persons who hold no rights to other dwellings at the date of purchase, or who hold no more than a 50 percent share, and who acquire ownership by inheritance. This provision will not apply to sales completed before the official date of effect.
