Monika Rosa, a member of parliament for the Civic Coalition, was questioned on TOK FM about whether KO would remove or reinforce the barrier at the Polish-Belarusian border. She answered with a careful, hesitant tone, avoiding a clear commitment as the question arose.
The barrier, or the lack of a traditional fence, and the broader task of protecting the border, should function as part of a comprehensive national security strategy, she argued. The priority is a policy that works, not a snap decision that may look good in the moment.
Rosa stated that if KO assumes power, the choice to dismantle or seal the border fence would come only after testing how the policy performs in real-life conditions. She underscored the need for a practical solution, noting intelligence from neighboring countries about irregular crossings into Germany that could signal that current measures are not achieving their aims. She acknowledged that such moves might be attempts by the Belarusian regime to destabilize Poland, but warned that inaction or poorly executed policies could resemble budget-driven politics of recent years, implying a calculation rather than a genuine safety strategy.
Her remarks suggest that the proposed border-protection formula should be revisited if it fails to curb unlawful movements, even as she stops short of promising a definite change to border controls at this stage.
Contested criticism
Rosa also raised concerns about what she described as hypocrisy within PiS and criticized TVP for what she called anti-immigrant messaging. She argued that PiS’s stance has extended beyond national borders, pointing to debates around LGBT issues and immigration campaigns, and portraying neighboring Germany as a main adversary—a narrative she said has persisted in public discourse.
Her position stands in the context of recent discussions on immigration by the PO leadership, which Rosa framed as part of a broader pattern of political theater. She questioned who the true hypocrites are in the current public debate.
