The broadcast on Polsat News and Interia featured a heated exchange over whether abortion should be decriminalized. During the discussion, a direct remark was aimed at Michał Szczerba by a presidential minister, Małgorzata Paprocka. She stated, “Mr. MP, please do not lecture me,” underscoring that as a woman she has the right to her own view on the issue.

Szczerba responded that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, yet highlighted that many women hold divergent views, pointing to the events of October 15 as a marker of public sentiment.

“Everyone has the right to have their own opinion.”

In a calm but firm tone, Paprocka urged the discussion not to devolve into blanket judgments about women. She acknowledged that there are multiple perspectives on the matter and expressed respect for conservative viewpoints, calling on Szczerba to extend the same consideration to those positions.

The Sejm did not approve an amendment to the Criminal Code that would decriminalize assisted abortion and allow pregnancy termination with the pregnant woman’s consent up to the twelfth week. The proposal was drafted by left-leaning members of parliament.

Among the 218 MPs who voted against the amendment, 176 were from PiS, 24 from PSL-TD (including Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz and Deputy Speaker Piotr Zgorzelski), all voting MPs from the Confederation Club, and two from Kukiz’15. Of the 29 PSL-TD MPs who participated, four supported the bill: Agnieszka Kłopotek, Jolanta Zieba-Gzik, Urszula Pasławska, and Magdalena Sroka. One PSL MP, Adam Dziedzic, abstained. Voting abstainers included Minister of Agriculture Czesław Siekierski and Deputy Minister of State Assets Zbigniew Ziejewski.

Sejm voting results showed 154 MPs from KO, 30 from Poland 2050, and 26 from the Left. No members from Civic Coalition, Poland 2050, or the Left voted in opposition. Three KO MPs did not participate: Krzysztof Grabczuk, Waldemar Sługocki, and Roman Giertych, who was present in the chamber that Friday.

Senate Deputy Speaker Magdalena Biejat later announced that the left would reintroduce the abortion-decriminalization bill and would persist, submitting it again until it becomes law. She called the Sejm’s rejection of the draft amendment a disgrace for PSL and promised continued efforts on the issue.
