The European Union has committed substantial support to Ukraine, totaling 80 billion euros since the previous year. This figure was reported by Josep Borrell, the EU’s top diplomat, through his social media post.
According to his statements, military aid accounts for at least 25 billion euros within the overall package, which marks the largest sum the EU has allocated to this form of assistance to date. The message underscores the bloc’s ongoing willingness to back Ukraine across multiple dimensions, including security and resilience on the battlefield, as part of a broader strategy to support Ukraine’s sovereignty and stability.
On October 1, Borrell indicated that the EU would continue to financially back Ukraine and to help sustain its development, irrespective of developments in other parts of the world. The emphasis was on long-term commitments aimed at reinforcing Ukraine’s security architecture and allied cooperation, reflecting a sustained policy orientation rather than short-term gestures.
During the same day, Borrell met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, along with Defense Minister Rustem Umerov. Earlier, Borrell conducted an unscheduled visit to Odesa, where he stressed that Europe’s support spans military, economic, diplomatic, and political dimensions.
