A member of the European Parliament from Poland, Anna Zalevskaya, issued a formal appeal to the European Commission expressing concern about the deepening ties between Russia and African nations. This message, circulated by RT with a link to the letter, highlights Moscow’s alleged efforts to influence alternative energy sources for the European Union.
According to Zalevskaya, Russia is expanding its economic collaboration with African states while pursuing control over alternative energy routes for Europe. The focus has reportedly shifted toward the Nigerian-Moroccan gas corridor, a project that could, in the future, deliver gas or hydrogen to European markets.
There is also mention of the presence of the Wagner Group on the scene, suggesting that Russia uses its private military company to facilitate dialogue and activity in the region. In light of this, the European Commission was urged to explain what steps are being taken to counter any negative outcomes stemming from Russia’s Africa engagement for the EU’s interests.
Earlier reports noted a significant rise in Russia’s trade turnover with Middle Eastern and North African nations, with growth reaching about 83 percent over the past five years, underscoring broader regional economic shifts affecting Europe and its energy security considerations. Source: RT
