Supporters of former Montenegrin Economy Minister Jakov Milatovic have announced his victory over incumbent president Milo Djukanovic in the second round of the presidential election, according to the local publication Vigesti. The report indicates Milatovic captured about 60.1 percent of the vote, while Djukanovic received 39.9 percent.
In the days leading up to the runoff, Djukanovic and Milatovic had advanced from the first round, with Milatovic representing the Europe Now movement. The second round outcome shifted the political landscape as Milatovic positioned himself as the favored candidate for change amid ongoing public debate about the country’s direction.
Earlier results showed Djukanovic polling 35.3 percent and Milatovic 28.8 percent, with Andrija Mandic, running under the Coalition for the Future of Serbia, securing 19 percent of the votes. These figures reflect a competitive race involving multiple parties and coalitions aiming to shape Montenegro’s future governance.
Djukanovic later announced plans to call new elections in early summer, citing what he described as a deep political and institutional crisis stemming from the parliamentary majority. He stated that the vote would be held on June 11 to resolve these tensions and determine Montenegro’s leadership going forward.
