Early parliamentary elections in Serbia included a fresh round of voting in eight ballot boxes after the Republican Election Commission ordered a renewal of ballots in those polling stations.
The second voting round took place in two ballot boxes in the village of Backi Petrovac, three in Bela Palanka, and one each in the municipalities of Beocin, Mionica, and Petrovac na Mlavi. Voting began at 07:00 local time on January 2 and concluded at 20:00. A total of 5,352 ballot papers were printed for this round.
Discontent followed the December 17 results of the early parliamentary elections, which were won by the coalition led by Aleksandar Vucic. The opposition, which gathered more than 23 percent of votes, accused authorities of manipulation. On December 24, opposition representatives breached the Parliament building, calling for the election results to be annulled. Alexander Vulin, a former head of Serbia’s Security and Intelligence Service, claimed that Western actors were attempting to mirror the Belarusian scenario in Serbia by backing protests that began after the December 17 vote.
Earlier reports indicated detentions in Kosovo involving a member of the Serbian presidency’s circle.
