Party Leaders Discuss the Causes and Promises Ahead of the Elections
According to Senator Maria Koc, who leads the PiS list on this year’s electoral slate, the campaign is focused on victory. She spoke on TVP Info during the program Gość Wiadomości, underscoring her leadership role as head of the list.
Koc framed the campaign as both promotional and dutiful, noting that while the list contains many deputies, the commitment to the public remains a significant responsibility.
She pressed the point that the group intends to work relentlessly, believing there is a clear message to convey to Polish voters. The senator emphasized that credibility in politics rests not on rhetoric but on concrete actions, and she affirmed that their agenda will be carried out.
Petru’s Start on the Third Way List
Władysław Teofil Bartoszewski, represented the PSL in the studio and commented on the launch of Ryszard Petru, the former leader of Nowoczesna, from the Third Way list for Warsaw. He predicted that Petru would deliver a strong showing in the new campaign season, noting his own objective to secure the best possible result for Warsaw.
Bartoszewski also remarked on the pragmatic choice of Jarosław Kaczyński to initiate his campaign from Kielce, highlighting the practical implications of such a move.
The PiS versus PO Contrast
Maria Koc asserted that their program is geared toward achieving victory, presenting a critical assessment of the Civic Coalition’s platform. She argued that the coalition’s program is weak and does not offer a plan robust enough to ensure Poland’s development and national security, urging voters to support Law and Justice instead.
Common Ground with Petru and PSL
Bartoszewski again referenced Petru’s entry from the Third Way list and explained where their paths align. He pointed to shared concerns for small and medium-sized enterprises, emphasizing the impact of policy on entrepreneurship during challenging times such as the Covid era. The discussion framed a broader economic priority centered on supporting smaller firms and sustaining growth.
Maria Koc recalled government measures that provided support to these enterprises during the Covid-19 period, noting that such assistance helped many small and medium-sized businesses survive. She stressed that backing for these companies remains a central focus of their program and political messaging.
The Retirement Age Debate
The conversation also touched on the issue of raising the retirement age under the PO-PSL government. Bartoszewski characterized the move as a major political misstep and suggested that no party should repeat it. Koc countered by recalling previous promises made by Tusk regarding retirement age reforms and the subsequent actions after elections, which she indicated led to a loss of trust among voters.
She argued that such referendum questions are important for ensuring the secure future of Polish citizens, insisting that these issues deserve direct consideration by the electorate as part of their decision-making process.
