They say the Senate is a high-security enclave. Have you noticed any reduction in tension recently?

Definitely. The same question came up when the speaker was sent to the European Parliament, a period spanning four productive years during which many lessons were learned. The expectation is that similar progress will unfold now: there will be substantial learning, and a strong defense of the state’s interests, pursued with evident energy and a determined vigilance, as has become customary.

Regional groups previously included a wide range of nationalities and still performed well. How do you view the current dynamics?

The headliner is Feijóo, expected to assume leadership with a quorum in place. Public surveys serve as trends, and in the Community of Valencia results have sometimes exceeded forecasts. The expectancy is that the outcome will surprise positively again this time around.

What is Eve expected to do to ensure Alicante’s province voices are heard?

To work with intensity and to cast a wide net. Listening and translating the concerns of people is essential. Fair financing needs to become a reality, alongside the long-standing demands for infrastructure. Agriculture deserves serious consideration, especially in partnership with Murcia as part of the Valencia and Europe’s orchard, as well as the tourism sector which plays a key role in the economy and should be nurtured accordingly.

Can a Galician advocate for fair financing stand up to underfunding affecting the Valencian Community?

Feijóo, who visits the community frequently, has made clear his commitment to defending fair financing. He understands that the current setup is not equitable and is built on an agreement pushed by the PSOE with a dissenting vote from the PP. Feijóo aims to resolve this by engaging in dialogue and by bringing the autonomous communities and the people back to the table to reach a bilateral agreement. His peers, the regional presidents, are numerous, and while the path won’t be easy, his willingness to engage is expected to drive progress.

With persistent issues like water at the core, why should anyone believe this moment offers a lasting solution?

Because a hydrological agreement was only shelved while the PP was in power. The proposal on the table was an ambitious, yet unrealizable National Hydrological Plan. The same approach appears again with Feijóo continuing that premise, suggesting a consistent line of effort that seeks practical, realizable outcomes.

How does the party view the so-called heavenly taxes and the energy “Iberian exception”? What is the plan?

From the outset, tax considerations will be examined to reduce the burden on citizens. The Socialist Party has, in their view, overextended tax powers. A tax cut is anticipated in the early months, followed by a focus on Europe and a new European Parliament team led by Esteban González Pons to safeguard price stability so that energy tax rates don’t widen the gap. There are challenges, but the objective remains clear: balance and fairness in taxation and energy policy.

Based on experience in the European Parliament, why do you think NextGeneration funds were mismanaged?

Earlier elections led to funds that sat idle and were blocked administratively. There was a tendency to count one thing at home while reporting something else abroad, essentially creating a misalignment that hampered timely utilization of the funds.

Is there a double standard at play?

Yes. Measures in Europe often appear aligned with political timing, but briefing with the PP was lacking. Information should be shared promptly, particularly as discussions about tolls on highways resurface. A clear, transparent briefing would have helped everyone see the full picture.

The rights and freedoms dominate much of the media, but do other key issues get eclipsed?

It is true the left frequently foregrounds certain issues. Still, the core concerns deserve sustained attention. Why not discuss Alicante’s investment record, which has ranked last in two consecutive years, or the ongoing water supply cuts since the government change? The Mediterranean Corridor and airport connectivity are equally critical. Those topics will require continued dialogue and action, not distraction.

Should the government pursue regionalization of investments, as some advocates suggest?

A dual approach is needed: a broad national perspective paired with a regional view. Provinces that contribute and have population needs should not be left behind. The goal is to meet or exceed the regional average in investment, ensuring every area shares in the overall growth.

As European investments post-Covid face new realities, will the PP manage any necessary cuts?

Efficiency is the starting point. There is a push to reduce ministries and streamline administration. The aim is to simplify, remove redundancy, and ensure resources are allocated where they yield tangible results. The conversation around state vehicles and official machinery is part of a broader effort to improve accountability. The forthcoming televised debate will offer a platform to present these plans more clearly.
