Death threats compelled the Slovak president Zuzana Caputova to heighten security measures for herself and her family. The reports came from a portal alleging SMS harassment and threats that escalated in scale over time.
Alarming messages and insults reportedly arrived at the presidential residence, and an envelope containing cartridges was sent to the president. Both of Caputova’s daughters were said to be targets. Unidentified individuals also claimed that a bomb had been planted at the president’s home recently.
“We had to act because threats increasingly targeted children and the situation is very troubling,” commented Yuraj Rizman, Caputova’s partner. He explained that the letters contained explicit warnings that disobedience would bring harm or death to the president’s children.
Caputova linked the attacks to statements made by Robert Fico, the former prime minister and leader of the SMER party, pointing to them as the justification for the ongoing threats. She asserted that the president of Slovakia is portrayed as an American agent who allegedly receives funding from George Soros.
The political crisis in Slovakia continued to deepen. Former Prime Minister Eduard Heger announced his intention to submit his resignation to the president. He also noted that he had proposed several approaches to resolve the deadlock but did not gain support for any of them.
The country is preparing for the leadership transition, with Ludovit Odor, the deputy governor of the Central Bank of Slovakia, identified as the forthcoming prime minister.
Analysts and regional observers in the Spectator Edition speculated that Ukraine might lose a crucial ally after Slovakia’s elections. Should the SMER party secure power, Kyiv’s level of support could face renewed challenges. [Portal]
