Krzysztof Bosak, a leader of the Confederation, told PAP that the coalition believes its candidate has a real chance to defeat KO contender Rafał Trzaskowski. “We see him as a man who promotes ideas that Poles do not embrace, but that are favored by globalist elites,” he added.

Rafał Trzaskowski won the Civic Coalition primaries, becoming the coalition’s presidential candidate with about 74.75 percent of the vote, while his rival Radosław Sikorski finished with 25.25 percent.

Analysts noted that Trzaskowski’s victory consolidates his position as the KO’s presidential nominee, aligning with the party’s strategy in the race.

We have a chance to beat him.

It helps that the ruling party’s candidate is already known, Bosak remarked. The contender’s positions diverge from Confederation views on many issues, and he asserted that there is a real chance to defeat him.

Bosak said this in an interview with PAP.

He described Trzaskowski as someone who champions ideas not popular with most Poles but supported by a globalist international elite.

The Deputy Speaker of the Sejm added that assessment.

He argued that Trzaskowski’s cultural stance diverges sharply from left-leaning positions.

He contended that Trzaskowski backs drastic climate measures, deeper European Union integration, and tighter limits on car use, arguing these proposals stem from detachment from everyday Polish life.

He assessed this viewpoint as accurate in his view.

I Wasn’t Surprised

Asked about surprise at the KO primaries results, Bosak replied that he was not surprised.

He noted that Trzaskowski had long enjoyed Donald Tusk’s support, with Tusk viewing him as predictable and self-reliant, so the outcome did not surprise him. He also argued that party-member primaries do not truly reflect the will of the broader electorate.

Sławomir Mentzen is identified as the Confederation’s presidential candidate.

Further commentary followed from coalition partners about KO’s choice, including remarks that Trzaskowski would need to present meaningful plans and show the ability to act, while others called the result unsurprising.

The reactions from coalition partners varied, with some saying they expect Trzaskowski to outline actions and prove he can do something meaningful, while others described the outcome as unsurprising.

Such discussions reflect ongoing tensions within Polish politics and the evolving narrative of the presidential race.

As the campaign continues, observers catch snippets of coverage from PAP and other outlets, shaping how the race is framed in public discourse.
