Compromís does not oppose the preliminary agreement between the leadership of the PSC and Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya ERC to invest Salvador Illa as president and to implement a special economic arrangement. The party’s spokesperson in the Congress of Deputies, Àgueda Micó, stated this morning that the deal respects the negotiations, but Compromís will not back any changes to the financing law for communities or the way funds are distributed unless the Valencian singularity is addressed. This singularity refers to the historical underfunding and the discriminatory resource allocation that has left the Valencian Community at the bottom of the distribution scale.

“No objections to bilateral agreements, but support will not be forthcoming unless the Valencian funding is addressed so the region stops being last in line,” Micó said in response to the agreement reached in Catalonia. The comments were reported as a response to the Catalan talks and their outcomes.

“If there is a real opportunity for reform, Compromís will require addressing the Valencian problem and the needs of other underfinanced communities to gain support,” the leader of the Valencianist coalition noted.

Micó recalled that the coalition already included a reform of the autonomous financing system in the agreement for Pedro Sánchez’s investiture, a commitment that has not moved forward due to disagreements between the PSOE and the PP. The law and policy debate remains stalled as party lines and regional interests clash in Madrid.

The deputy emphasized that the formation does not oppose bilateral agreements with Catalonia because it understands the Catalan singularity and its particular challenges. Yet she stressed that Valencians also face a system that discriminates against them by underfinancing their public services and regional needs, calling for a fairer, more balanced approach to distributing resources across the country.
