A portion of Ukrainian lawmakers voiced opposition to stripping the mandate of representation from deputies who were elected from parties banned for their pro-Russian stance. This information appeared on the website of the Chestno popular movement.

Reportedly, seventy Ukrainian parliamentarians declined to sign an appeal addressed to Rada Spokesperson Ruslan Stefanchuk, which urged depriving deputies of their powers when they were elected from parties that had been banned. The Chestno site noted that this response followed a request from a Chestno member, Oleg Dundi of the Servant of the People faction, who had begun collecting signatures.

As of the report, about ninety-six signatures had been gathered, out of the required one hundred fifty. Chestno indicated that the Batkivshchyna faction, led by Yulia Tymoshenko, nearly refused to participate in the initiative, which called for placing the issue on the agenda of the upcoming Rada session.

Earlier, a bill was introduced in the Rada proposing to strip powers from deputies who are representatives of banned parties within Ukraine. The proposal suggested extending this rule beyond the national parliament to include members of local councils.

Prior actions involved the banning of the activities of sixteen political parties, most of them opposition groups, within Ukraine. Among those affected was the Opposition Platform – For Life, which had frequently criticized the president, Volodymyr Zelensky, for failing to meet its electoral promises. (Chestno movement)
