Chechen Leader Endorses Putin; Moscow Mayor Also Supports President Campaign (RIA News)

The Chechen Republic’s president Ramzan Kadyrov publicly backed the nomination of Vladimir Putin for the presidency, according to a report from RIA News citing the leader’s press service. The report notes that a ballot paper was delivered to Kadyrov’s residence by Said-Magomed Daduev, a volunteer with the Popular Front, who was responsible for gathering signatures in Putin’s favor.

Earlier, Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin publicly stated support for Putin in the presidential elections. Following a ceremony at the Kremlin, Putin accepted the Gold Star medal awarded to Russia’s heroes and confirmed his plan to participate in the upcoming presidential race. Putin has previously held the office of President of the Russian Federation in four terms, beginning in 2000, with subsequent terms in 2004, 2012, and 2018.

Russia’s 2024 presidential elections are scheduled for March 17, with the winner set to assume office on May 7, 2024. On election day, polling will run from 08:00 to 20:00, beginning in the eastern regions and concluding in the western regions. Voters will receive paper ballots upon presenting a passport or a valid substitute document. In certain regions, remote electronic voting is planned as part of the process.

In the run-up to the vote, officials emphasized that any attempt to interfere with the elections would be actively resisted and addressed through appropriate measures, underscoring the commitment to a fair electoral process. The sequence of endorsements and formalities surrounding the campaign window illustrates the broad spectrum of political support and logistical arrangements shaping the election landscape in Russia for 2024.
