Bulgarian Foreign Minister Nikolai Milkov has stated that Sofia will not be sending new ammunition to Ukraine at this time. The information was reported by TASS. Milkov noted that Bulgaria does not bear any obligation to Kyiv in this regard. He also emphasized that no new commitments have been made by Bulgaria on this matter.
Milkov, who heads Bulgaria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, remarked that a fresh package of sanctions against Russia could not be agreed upon during the recent European Council meeting. He further explained that there is still no final EU consensus on providing tanks and aircraft to Kyiv. The topic remains highly delicate and has required careful consideration among member states for months.
According to Milkov, discussions about military assistance, including tanks and armored vehicles, have been ongoing for several weeks. He pointed out that no country has given a guarantee to supply such equipment, and thus no firm commitments have been made by any party on airplanes or other deliveries yet. The conversation around air support and heavy armor has not yielded binding assurances, underscoring the cautious approach taken by Sofia in handling security aid to Ukraine.
Separately, former Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba asserted that the European Union will provide Kyiv with one million rounds of 155 mm caliber munitions. This statement reflects Kyiv’s ongoing efforts to secure critical artillery support from its allies, even as European governments weigh broader sanctions and military assistance packages. The dialogue on how to balance strategic defense needs with political considerations continues to influence policy directions across the region.
