The budget plan for the First Vice Presidency and the Department of Culture and Sports stands at 220.82 million, reflecting a 5.1% decrease from 2023. With the forthcoming accounts, the Generalitat intends to finalize its commitments in the province of Alicante, channeling more than 1.16 million euros into ongoing and new cultural initiatives. A dedicated investment in Kültür for 2024 is planned, alongside a special allocation for bull-related programs.
In the heritage sector, the largest single investment in the province will be directed to the Elche district. This means a half-million euro infusion to safeguard and restore historic sites, notably the ancient Almoravid wall and the surrounding area. A 105,000 euro allocation has already been approved by the Ministry of Culture for 2022, enabling a broader restoration of the Islamic walls within the Medina, the Arab baths, and the urban fabric of certain streets and districts from the Islamic period of the palm grove with its irrigation network.
Research on the Elche Islamic Wall has been documented by AXEL ALVAREZ.
Additionally, in the assets program, Alcoy Main Theater has been allotted 60,000 euros for rehabilitation. The center requires a renewed electrical installation and air conditioning system,新的 fireproof curtains, and other improvements so that the principal venue can resume a stable schedule after five years.
The most significant item within the Ministry of Culture’s project will address Libraries and Archives. Full funding will support the Azorín public library in Alicante, a state-owned facility managed autonomously. A total of 500,000 euros is planned for this initiative in the coming year.
The Alicante Historical Archive will receive earmarked funding as described in the budgets. Equipment replacements are planned at 25,000 euros for other centers. The state public library in Orihuela will receive 43,000 euros, with 33,000 euros for technical assistance to other centers and 10,000 euros for equipment to replace cultural facilities.
