President Joe Biden intends to veto a proposed bill that would allocate funds to support Israel, a move critics say could undermine aid to Ukraine and fail to address critical border security needs in the United States. This stance was communicated in a written statement from the White House Office of Management and Budget, with TASS reporting the details.
The document makes clear that should such a bill reach the president’s desk, a veto would be issued. In response, White House officials urged the House of Representatives and the Senate to bypass what they termed a political ploy and instead move quickly toward bipartisan legislation that would strengthen national security funding and provide practical, timely support where it is most needed.
The Office of Management and Budget reiterated that the White House opposes the proposed measure because it does not contribute to securing U.S. borders or delivering meaningful assistance to Kiev.
Previously, the leading figure of the Republican faction in the U.S. House of Representatives voiced opposition to the Senate bill aimed at aiding Ukraine while also emphasizing border security concerns, calling the proposal a failure in its current form.
Earlier discussions between the United States and Ukraine centered on negotiations about security guarantees for Kyiv, highlighting ongoing efforts to align strategic assurances with American domestic priorities.
