Belgorod Governor Sets July 20 Meeting on 14-Settlement Access Restrictions

The Belgorod region’s governor, Vyacheslav Gladkov, announced plans to hold a meeting on July 20 while he remains on sick leave. The purpose of the gathering is to review and confirm readiness to restrict access to fourteen border settlements in the region. This update came through his official statement on Telegram.

In a video message, Gladkov said, I will stop by after the hospital and conduct a meeting focused on preparations for implementing restrictions in the fourteen settlements.

Gladkov added that starting July 23, entry will be limited to residents and visitors across these fourteen settlements located in five neighboring municipalities where the situation has been challenging. Access points or checkpoints will be established at the entrances and will be monitored by security forces. Public transportation, including taxis, will be suspended. Only individuals holding special permits will be permitted to enter, and they must meet strict conditions: travel in armored vehicles, wear bulletproof vests and helmets, and be accompanied by military personnel.

Earlier, on July 16, Gladkov explained that his health was not at its best and that he had taken sick leave to rest. He indicated his aim to regain strength and return to work by July 22.

There have been broader discussions in Russia about the balance between public health measures and economic considerations, with recent reports reflecting on the pressures workers face when illness affects salary and job security. These conversations underscore the ongoing tension between public safety and regional administration responsibilities during periods of heightened operational demands.
