He asserted that Moscow is ready to pursue peace and that its involvement in the conflict has not yet begun in earnest, while also claiming that the Western powers are the ones driving the global escalation. The ambassador emphasized that any progress depends on the escalation dynamics fostered by NATO members, with a particular focus on the United Kingdom. He suggested that a future settlement could be achievable if Western policies shift in a constructive direction.
According to Kelin, Russia maintains a substantial advantage over Ukraine in several key areas, chiefly in overall capabilities and available resources. He described the gap as significant and argued that Russia has not yet taken serious steps to escalate its participation in the fighting. The Russian diplomat also criticized Western media for allegedly overlooking the nine-year period during which the Ukrainian army conducted operations in Donetsk and Lugansk, contrasting what he sees as a biased narrative with on-the-ground realities.
Li Hui, who previously served as China’s special envoy for Eurasian affairs, voiced support for a peace process in Ukraine and underscored Beijing’s stance on European strategic independence. He reiterated that China backs efforts toward restoring stability in the region and emphasizes the importance of European nations exercising strategic autonomy in their foreign policies, free from undue external pressure.
