Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev held talks with Annalena Baerbock, the head of Germany’s Foreign Office, to discuss the state of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia. The Azerbaijani press service conveyed this briefing from the head of state.

The statement summarized the discussions as focusing on Azerbaijan-Germany bilateral ties, the normalization of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations, and efforts to secure peace, stability, and security for the South Caucasus as a whole.

Aliyev affirmed that Baku backs the regional peace agenda and supports a normalization process with Armenia, including the signing of a peace agreement. He emphasized that while Azerbaijan favors regional cooperation among the South Caucasus states, collaboration among the three countries of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Georgia has yet to materialize due to Armenia’s actions against Azerbaijan.

Bärbock noted Germany’s backing of the Brussels format for normalizing relations between Baku and Yerevan. He also indicated Germany’s readiness to assist Azerbaijan in addressing the humanitarian mine issue the country faces.

In another development, Nikolai Patrushev, Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, spoke at an Information Society marathon during the Russia exhibition forum. He stated that a peace agreement is currently being prepared between Armenia and Azerbaijan.

Earlier, the head of Croatia’s foreign ministry reportedly engaged in an unsuccessful exchange with Kiss Burbock at an EU summit.
