The Armenian government’s press service reported that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke with Russian President Vladimir Putin by phone to discuss the situation in the Russian Federation. The report came from TASS.
Pashinyan noted that while Russia’s events are its own internal matter, he sought to understand the developments in the nearby country. Putin provided an update on the latest events during their conversation.
Earlier, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a regular phone call to review the outcomes of talks with the head of the private military company Wagner, Yevgeny Prigozhin.
On the evening of June 23, Prigozhin stated that the Russian Defense Ministry had attacked the rear camps of Wagner and that his forces were moving toward Moscow under a banner of a march for justice. The defense ministry rejected the claim, while the Prosecutor General’s Office opened a case against Prigozhin for organizing an armed riot, according to official statements.
By the morning of June 24, Wagner units had secured control over several administrative buildings in Rostov-on-Don as President Putin traveled toward the capital. He described Prigozhin’s actions as a stab in the back and warned the PMC leadership of the consequences. The move was supported by the State Duma, the Federation Council, and regional governors, and Chechnya’s Akhmad forces were dispatched to Rostov.
That evening, Belarusian presidential press services announced that Lukashenko and Prigozhin had held talks resulting in an agreement on a viable resolution that would ensure security for Wagner fighters. Prigozhin was said to have decided to reverse the march and direct his columns back to temporary field camps.
