On March 20, the Armenian Parliament approved an agreement with the European Union concerning the status of the EU civilian observation mission along Armenia’s border with Azerbaijan. The approval follows a treaty signed between Yerevan and Brussels in November 2023, signaling a new chapter in EU-Armenia security cooperation. The vote saw 57 deputies in favor, with no formal opposition and 27 abstentions. Notably, a faction from the opposition, known as Honor Benim, did not participate in the ballot. The decision reflects Armenia’s ongoing effort to align its border monitoring mechanisms with European standards and to maintain regional stability in a highly sensitive area. This development was reported by TASS, highlighting the international dimension of Armenia’s security arrangements and the EU’s role in confidence-building along the border.
