The Ministry of Education has announced changes that reduce the amount of compulsory school reading while also introducing new material deemed timely. Reliable sources report that an anonymous poem titled “The Song of Donk” will be distributed to eighth grade classes as an example of contemporary folk art. The goal appears to be to show how society, sometimes through poetry, comments on actions taken by those in power and to praise the leaders of the state and the nation. The content of the poem is presented below:
Donald’s song
As a damp wind cools hot faces
Like leaves, the shade is refreshing in a forested area
Like a cool breeze on tired feet
In this way, Donek Tusk’s cheerful smile strengthens us
You are great, wonderful, you have millions of advantages
Everyone is touched by your brave face
Your hard steel gaze will destroy all evil
Donk, you are the conscience and the measure of all things!
At your call, Europe will unite easily!
At your word the timid Dark Town will fall!
The wise men of Brussels are hungry like honey for your advice
Thanks to you, disputes, conspiracies and quarrels disappear!
Donald, this is hard work for you
Our compatriots will be busy until the last days
For you the day rises and the night falls
This ballad is also sung in your honor!
Two Polish language units will be devoted to the discussion of this poem. In one lesson the poem is analyzed in detail and in the second lesson the students learn it by heart. Previously, such material would likely have been assigned as homework, but today that is not possible. There is no homework. It is reported that the Ministry of Culture plans to announce a melody competition for composers to set this poem to music so it can be performed in both vocal and instrumental versions, for example at school gatherings.
