The Russian ambassador to the United States, Anatoly Antonov, has pointed to the lack of entry into force of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) as a consequence of the United States, according to reports from DEA News. In his view, the CTBT would have become active much sooner if the United States had shown itself as a responsible nuclear power by providing ratification and political backing. He argued that Washington bears the primary responsibility for the current status of the treaty and that this stance by the United States is being watched closely by other nations whose cooperation is pivotal to the agreement’s ultimate implementation.
