In line with his weekly briefing in Alicante, the government delegate to the community, Pilar Bernabé, emphasized during a Thursday morning informational breakfast the importance of convening a meeting of nine southern European countries in the city on the 30th. The summit would position Alicante as a central hub for the region, highlighting its role in the Mediterranean and its capacity to host major international initiatives.
Alicante is set to host the Med-9 summit, joined by France, Italy, Portugal, Greece, Cyprus, Malta, Slovenia, and Croatia. The organizational framework involves all levels of administration and a significant deployment of the Security Forces and Corps to ensure thorough and coordinated execution of the event.

Bernabé praised the unity and responsibility shown by these regional administrations, extending beyond political lines to address urgent needs. She highlighted coordination as a key factor for a rapid response and for implementing a broad range of assistance in case of emergencies such as wildfires in August.
In alignment with the Generalitat, the Government delegate underscored support for the Council of Ministers’ proposal to host the meeting in Alicante. The region is recognized for its human capital and its dynamic innovation ecosystem, characteristics that could attract forward-looking initiatives in the field of Artificial Intelligence and related sectors.

Alongside the deputy delegate, Araceli Poblador, Bernabé discussed potential improvements and risk management strategies. She noted that the Segura Hydrographic Confederation is advancing work on channel cleaning and highlighted the substantial investment involved. The government has announced funds aimed at strengthening the entire hydrographic basin to prevent flooding and bolster resilience.
She also mentioned ongoing efforts to secure transportation resources and to support mobility within the region. The discussion touched on broader plans to support cultural and media projects, with Alicante positioned as a center for audio-visual production and related industries.
