The Alicante Provincial Council has received a substantial package of amendments from the Socialist group, totaling 87 changes and exceeding 14 million euros, aimed at the newly published 2024 budget. In presenting these alterations, the PSPV-PSOE line-up accuses the governing People’s Party of distrusting the opposition and of resisting collaborative oversight. Preparations are underway for meetings between the People’s Party and other Provincial Assembly groups next week, and the general assembly, where the accounts must be approved, is anticipated to convene sometime between the 20th and 30th of this month.
Speaking on behalf of the PSPV at the provincial agency, Vicente Arques described the amendments as a move to ensure continuity and ambition within the budget. The mayor of L’Alfàs del Pi highlighted that the proposed measures are economic in nature and are designed to strengthen policies that experience has shown to be ineffective or have hampered the work of the State Assembly, failing to secure timely and prudent implementation.
Among the amendments put forward by the socialist group is a proposal to expand the subsidy framework for agreements with small town councils, with the aim of creating pools of technicians. Another measure seeks to establish a pool of administrative assistants to manage benefits dispensed by the Provincial Council to municipalities and to the Generalitat. These pieces are supplemented by additional amendments that contemplate setting aside 1.8 million euros for actions tied to the execution of local forest fire plans, along with 150,000 euros allocated for the preparation of climate and forest fire action plans, as part of broader efforts to promote sustainable energy and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
