Alcoy’s PSOE continues to frame its objective as achieving an outright majority, emphasizing a clear winning mandate for the upcoming municipal elections. The campaign has consistently echoed the central message “12 + you,” joined by supportive slogans like “Amb tu sumem” and “12+1.” This Friday afternoon, during the candidacy presentation led by Toni Frances, in the Àgora Alcoi district, a broad array of regional and national party figures voiced their backing for the Alcoyan socialist slate. The event drew numerous party militants and local supporters who shared in the momentum of the moment.
Since the publication of the previous report, the incumbent mayor of Alcoy has signaled an intention for a fourth term, presenting a sense of continuity in which the governing bloc’s majority remains a central theme. Following Frances on the list are Lorena Zamorano, Jordi Martínez, and Vanessa Moltó, who all occupied similar ranks in the 2019 slate and have managed prominent municipal responsibilities during the current term. In fifth place sits the painter Ignacio Trelis, highlighting the slate’s blend of professional and civic profiles.
The inclusion of a plastic artist marks one of the notable innovations on the PSOE list for these elections. Yet the slate’s lineup carries anticipation as well, with historians and cultural managers occupying the 11th and 12th positions respectively. Beyond these three, the principal novelty in the first half of the list is Aroa Mira, a former councilor who returns to local politics after four years as a deputy in the Valencian Parliament, securing the eighth spot on the ticket.
As in previous cycles, the re-election of current councilors Carolina Ortiz, Jordi Silvestre, and Aranza de Gracia appears unlikely, given their current standings at the 16th, 17th, and 18th positions. Occupying the 13th place, a designation associated with securing an absolute majority, is the current Industry Council Member Jordi Segura, who previously held the same position on the list four years ago. In terms of results, the PSOE garnered 12,603 votes, coming within a single mayoral margin of an outright majority, a shift from 9,830 votes and nine mayors recorded in 2015. It reflects a notable electoral path as the campaign progresses.
Joins the chorus of support figures Josefina Bueno, the Minister of Innovation, Universities, Science and Digital Society, who was among the socialist leaders backing the Alcoy candidacy. Also lending credibility to the slate were regional deputy Laura Soler and Yaissel Sánchez, the UGT General Secretary in Alicante, who is part of the PSPV’s state-level Cortes list. Patricia Blanquer, a congressional deputy and former mayoral candidate for Alcoy in 2007, publicly endorsed Toni Frances, alongside other party offices and regional candidates across nearby municipalities.
