The alliance known as the Agreement has ended its collaboration with Agrounia, a partnership that began in February of this year. Stanisław Bukowiec, a Member of Parliament and the Secretary General of the Agreement, notes that the proposals presented at Agrounia’s recent convention were decisive in shaping the break.
According to Bukowiec, the decision to end the cooperation with Agrounia was driven by policy concerns rather than any single incident. Not long ago, Agrounia held its convention where an economic program was laid out. The program contained several elements viewed as left-leaning, which the alliance could not endorse.
In an interview with the portal wPolityce.pl, Bukowiec elaborated on these points.
One concrete issue involved a proposal for centralized trade management, effectively a plan to create an entity to supply Polish stores. The comparison to a bygone era, the time of the People’s Republic of Poland, led Bukowiec to describe the idea as reminiscent of that period. He argued that the program promoted a far-left economic narrative that clashed with the alliance’s liberal economic stance. The housing plan proposed at the convention also drew objections.
He added that although the cooperation with Agrounia has ended, the period of partnership was not without value. The alliance and Agrounia had constructive joint efforts, including highlighting concerns about the influx of food products from Ukraine into Poland. Through these collaborations, many valuable individuals were encountered within Agrounia.
“Michał Kołodziejczak’s version is irrational to me”
Agrounia’s leader Michał Kołodziejczak stated that the alliance did not end its cooperation with Agrounia. In an interview with RMF FM, he accused the alliance of failing to clearly and decisively distance itself from PiS and of maintaining a persistent connection to Jarosław Gowin.
The viewpoint that the alliance should not break completely from PiS was described as irrational by the speaker. The argument that those who remained with the Accord blocked PiS from acquiring influence was deemed nonsensical. The reference to Jarosław Gowin was dismissed; Gowin resigned as party chairman in December and is less active in public life, making it difficult to claim he is steering events in any strong way. Magdalena Sroka runs the agreement, and the idea that Gowin controls the deal from behind the scenes was rejected.
That is how the situation was characterized by the spokesperson.
Agreement plans for the future
What lies ahead for the Agreement? Will it act independently, or will it form an alliance with another political group? It is clear that discussions about cooperation between the Agreement and other political formations are already ongoing.
Even while maintaining ties with Agrounia, there was an emphasis on unity and the need to build broader connections. Ongoing conversations with different circles continue. The aim is to bring together diverse voices within the opposition to craft a compelling program.
“If cooperation with other groups proceeds, it would be a step toward presenting a robust and comprehensive proposal”, the Member of Parliament commented.
