Juan Vicente Hinarejos Madrid is a candidate for Mayor of Monforte del Cid representing the Por Monforte party.

His political journey began in 1989 alongside Juan Antonio Montesinos with the Alicante People’s Party. In the same election year, he assumed responsibility for the party’s supervisors and deputies in the Alicante capital, a post he held through several municipal, regional, and general elections.

In Alicante politics, he actively supported the 1989 campaign where Federico Trillo Figueroa helped organize diverse events across the province, aiming to connect with residents and advance policy in a more intimate way.

In Medio Vinalopó, under the leadership of the People’s Party and the president of the Diputación, he participated in key decisions affecting towns such as Aspe, Monforte del Cid, and nearby areas. In the run up to the 1999 and 2003 elections, he was repeatedly invited by the Alicante People’s Party to vie for the candidacy in Monforte del Cid.

Since marrying in 2000, he has actively and selflessly contributed to Monforte del Cid, supporting neighborhoods and city projects, especially in football, cultural events, traditional festivities, and the local sports scene, including years of involvement with 24-hour futsal.

He has collaborated with neighboring municipalities such as Novelda and Aspe on a variety of sports presentations for many years and became known for his work across different areas of city life and media.

“A party sank in Monforte”

In the most recent municipal elections, he was again put forward by the People’s Party of Alicante and ranked sixth on the municipal ballot, a position attributed to perceptions that the party had declined in influence.

After the pandemic, he sought to revitalize the local political landscape for the elections in Monforte in 2023, holding several meetings in Alicante, Aspe, and Agost. At first, his initiative drew support from state, county, and Montfort affiliates, but perceptions of self-interest ultimately influenced outcomes, shifting dynamics within the party.

“Against obsolete and subversive politics”

Following discussions, he chose to form a new political option in the town, assembling members from multiple parties who were tired of an outdated and ineffective approach. Por Monforte—a people’s party for the people, with the people—emerged as a platform where every resident could find a place. The aim was to elevate Monforte del Cid to the level it deserves by focusing on honest work, local development, and service in the municipal council and mayoralty on day-to-day matters.

Hinarejos notes that Monforte del Cid has the region’s strongest communication corridor linking Murcia, Andalusia, Madrid, and Valencia, and possesses some of the world’s premier agricultural resources. Yet, he argues that several industrial zones remain underutilized. In the short to medium term, he contends that without targeted support or clear projects, progress stalls, leaving residents yearning for genuine change. He asserts that Monforte needs transformation, and that united effort can bring it about.
