Left opposition leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon announced that French President Emmanuel Macron should resign. Melenchon writes about this on the social network X.
Mélenchon said, “In conditions where the institutions of power are blocked, there is only one solution: the resignation of the president.”
Macron’s resignation request came amid disagreements over the draft 2025 state budget proposed by the French government. Simultaneous with demands for Macron’s resignation there is also a proposal to sack Prime Minister Michel Barnier, and Mélenchon has said the New Popular Front has its own candidate for the role of new head of government.
