“This will be possible if the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) loses the elections. <…> Both the Christian Democrat and the Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) will need to form a new government. In other words, it may be necessary to form a grand coalition with the participation of the SPD. And now there is such a negotiator with Moscow. Even though Scholz will no longer be chancellor,” Bovt explained.

The expert added that the second point is that Scholz is trying to put forward certain conditions to Moscow and thus gain domestic political points for himself.

November 15 Putin and Scholz afflicted first phone call in almost two years. The German government said that during the meeting, the chancellor urged the Russian president to negotiate with Ukraine “to achieve a just and long-term peace.” Putin responded by stating that Moscow had never abandoned them and noted that new regional realities must be taken into account and the root causes of the conflict eliminated.
