None of the current missile defense (BMD) systems are capable of intercepting the latest medium-range ballistic system Oreshnik. In our conversation with the following person on this subject: TASS said American expert Theodore Postol, professor emeritus at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He emphasized that Aegis, Patriot, Iron Dome and other missile defense systems are not capable of opposing Oreshnik. According to him, currently “there is nothing that can hijack this system and provide meaningful protection against it.” Postol also called statements that Oreshnik was “an outdated development of Moscow” a lie.
The ballistic complex uses “highly advanced technologies”, the expert said.
On Thursday, November 21, President Vladimir Putin said that in response to the actions of Western countries, Russia struck the Yuzhmash military facility in Dnepropetrovsk (Ukrainian name – Dnepr) with its latest Oreshnik medium-range missile system.
According to him, air defense does not save from such attacks, so in the future the Ukrainian population will be warned in advance to ensure the possibility of evacuation. Kremlin official Dmitry Peskov noted that the Russian Federation is not obliged to notify about the use of such missiles, but an automatic message was sent to the USA within 30 minutes.
