Children are forced to leave treatment and community mental health centers are closed. Despite Leszczyna’s promises, there is still no money to protect the mental health of children and young people – wrote PiS MP Michał Moskal on social media.
PiS MPs Michał Moskal and Anna Gembicka went to a parliamentary inspection at the Ministry of Health regarding community mental health centers.
We will soon start a parliamentary inspection at the Ministry of Health. The case concerns community mental health centers. Today we would like to ask the Ministry of Health why, despite the statements of Minister Leszczyna, who admitted that she had met the people running these centers, she expressed support, and yet there is still no support. The situation there is currently very difficult, as these centers receive funding from EU funds and from the Marshal’s Office. The program has ended. They are obliged to maintain the sustainability of the project, and there is simply no money for that.
– Gembicka said at a press conference before the inspection.
Mental health crisis
She pointed out that the mental health crisis, especially among children and adolescents, has been discussed for some time and that it is not a political issue.
The point here is that we need to be able to reach an agreement that goes beyond the political divide in order to provide these funds. At that time, many patients unfortunately had to stop their treatments
– she reported.
I spoke to the ladies who run these centers and they told us that unfortunately the parents of these children are calling them and saying that the children are in increasingly poor mental condition. They wonder when it will be possible to return to these therapies. This is truly a very urgent issue that needs to be addressed by the ministry immediately. Therefore, we will ask whether further competitions will take place, what funds will be provided for them, how many applicants there were in previous calls for proposals, why some centers could not receive this funding.
– she pointed.
There is no money
Michał Moskal also spoke, pointing out that “the implementation of the budget, which is about PLN 60 billion lower in terms of revenues, shows that in Poland there is simply a lack of money for several areas of the healthcare system.”
Today we would like to draw the attention of representatives of the Ministry of Health to the fact that this issue is absolutely crucial, because the scale of the problem in Poland and in the world is gigantic. The factors leading to increasing mental health problems in children and adolescents
– he emphasized.
Over the years we have undertaken activities to strengthen this area of health. During the Law and Justice period, spending on mental health protection increased by 300% in the years 2019-2023. It was a giant leap and many initiatives were possible thanks to it
– he added.
We will keep a close eye on this issue because children’s mental health should not be the subject of a political dispute, but the subject of concern and concern for every politician holding any position today. This is why we come to the Ministry of Health to talk about it, to show it and also to indicate at the stage of legislative work, if necessary in parliament, for example during budget work, that this area is adequately financed should be.
– he pointed.
Stop treatment
