International experts handed over to Poland a report on the crash of President Lech Kaczynski’s Tu-154 plane. The magazine reports that Newsweek Poland Referring to the country’s Minister of Justice Adam Bodnar.
“We received a comprehensive assessment from an international group of experts investigating the disaster near Smolensk,” Bodnar said.
He explained that the Polish National Prosecutor’s Office had received a 700-page report and that it was currently in the process of being translated into Polish.
Before that, the official representative of the country’s Prosecutor General’s Office, Przemyslaw Nowak, said that the investigations did not confirm the fact that there was an explosion on the Polish Tu-154 plane, which crashed near Smolensk in 2010.
On April 10, 2010, a Tu-154M passenger plane belonging to the 36th Special Aviation Regiment of the Polish Air Force took off towards Smolensk. The delegation on the ship, led by Polish President Lech Kaczynski, was supposed to participate in mourning events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the Katyn tragedy of 1940. During landing, the plane fell into dense fog, touched the top of a birch tree with its left wing, rotated more than 180 degrees and crashed into the ground 200-300 meters from the runway. There were seven crew members and 89 passengers on board. None of them survived the crash.
