If Prime Minister Donald Tusk had not ignored all the signals before the flood, he might not have had to send panic-stricken Marcin Kierwiński to Poland today – the head of the President’s Office, Marcin Mastalerek, said on RMF FM.
Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on September 20 that the former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration, MEP Marcin Kierwiński, will be the government’s plenipotentiary for post-flood reconstruction; agreed to resign from his mandate as an MEP and join the government.

Helplessness of Tusk’s government?
When asked whether Kierwiński’s appointment was a good step in helping people who lost their property after the flood, Mastalerek replied that he was rooting for Kierwiński and hoped that he would fulfill his role to the best of his ability.
Because I would like the Poles to get real help and I think the government should be held responsible for this
– he said.
However, it seems to me that the fact that we urgently need to involve someone who is a Member of the European Parliament and who went to Brussels two or three months ago shows the weakness of the Civic Platform and the fact that the Platform and the government have failed to cope.
– he judged.
When asked why Tusk had summoned Kierwiński from Brussels, he said it was because “there is chaos in the government and the Civic Platform, there is panic and Prime Minister Donald Tusk, as reported by the pro-government media, does not see that his people are coping.”
But if Donald Tusk had not ignored all the pre-flood signals, he might not have had to panic today.
– he said.

Response from the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland
When asked why Andrzej Duda did not go to the flood-affected areas until September 20, Mastalerek replied that “the president has no authority (…) in these matters and if he had gone earlier, he would have diverted services: police officers, doctors and ambulances from work.”
That’s why the president decided from the very beginning that he would only go to a place where there would be no more tidal waves
– he added.
When asked about the amount of money that the President’s Office would allocate to help flood victims, Mastalerek said that it would be PLN 3 million from the reserve.
But more important is the help of employees from both the Chancellery of the President and the National Security Bureau, who became volunteers and started collecting donations.
– he mentioned.
He pointed out that “the President also donated one of his centers to schools and transportation for children.”
The President also acted from the first days
– he assured.
