The head of the Ministry of National Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, said that 19,000 Currently, 922 soldiers are directly involved in the fight against the flood, including: strengthening the embankments and removing damage. He assured that the army would remain in the flood-affected areas as long as necessary.
At the evening meeting of the crisis staff in Wrocław, Kosiniak-Kamysz assured that the army was carrying out all the tasks assigned to it in all areas.
He noted that soldiers are taking part in “strengthening the dikes, assisting in evacuations, carrying out preventive patrols, providing medical assistance, removing damage, technical and disinfection work.”
The minister said that there are currently 19,000 922 soldiers directly involved in the operations. These include: soldiers of the General Command, Operational Forces, Territorial Defense, the Army Academy and the Military Aviation Academy.
According to Kosiniak-Kamysz, this is the largest military operation in thirty years.
Never before have so many soldiers been involved in one operation, in one place, in a very limited area
– he emphasized, thanking for the support.
The Deputy Prime Minister announced that 4,000 people have been evacuated so far. 538 people.
Kosiniak-Kamysz recalled that a special operation called “Phoenix” was launched on Thursday. Its aim is to rebuild regions of Poland devastated by the flood.
It is very important to clean up everything possible in the coming days. It improves functioning in the immediate environment
– he pointed out.
“Operation Phoenix is scheduled for the end of the year.”
He assured that the army would remain in the flood-affected areas for as long as necessary.
There is no limit here. Operation Phoenix is scheduled to last until the end of this year, but if necessary, the army will simply stay here longer
– said the minister.
Kosiniak-Kamysz also spoke about the medical support of the army, for which the deputy head of the Ministry of National Defense, Cezary Tomczyk, is responsible. The head of the Ministry of Defense announced that the hospital in Nysa was fully operational and that one of the first patients was a one-and-a-half-year-old child.
He is prepared for triage, supplies, assistance and minor interventions
– reported the situation in the hospital.
The minister said the army is also present in mobile clinics.
They reach the places that need it most, like Lewin Brzeski. Today it is still 50 percent. the city was still under water. There too and in the most difficult to reach places a mobile clinic will be
– he explained.
As he said, the military has already “largely” assembled the structures needed to build bridges, which will take four to five days.
And this will be the case in the twelve locations characterized so far. If there are further reports, we ask voivodes to provide this information as soon as possible
– he appealed.
Kosiniak-Kamysz added that the mobile army secured 24 water treatment plants.
A water treatment plant that guarantees access to water and sewerage: this is one of the biggest challenges we face today. And the coordination of these activities, because the water intake is in one municipality, it is delivered to other municipalities
– he said, stressing the importance of coordination at the district level.
The army is now moving towards the wave that is going upstream. So there is both cleaning and securing in places where there is no more water. The number of units is increasing. And downstream the dikes are reinforced where necessary before the flood wave arrives. All these activities are planned sequentially
– reported the head of the Ministry of National Defense.
